About Kitwe District Land Alliance

Kitwe District Land Alliance (KDLA)ā€™ is a consortium of Non ā€“governmental organizations advocating for better land policies and laws for the betterment of the communities. These organisations have an interest in land in one way or the other as they implement their separate activities and programs in their respective organisations.

The Alliance is one of the District Land Alliances (DLA) under Zambia Land Alliance (ZLA). ZLA has successfully established District Land Alliances around the country. ZLA came into existence in 1997. KDLA came into being after the member organisations with support from ZLA realized that there was need for such a network in the District due to a lot of land issues and disputes experienced in the area.

The Alliance was established in October 2011 to coordinate activities of ZLA at district level and this was after Alliance members under went a training in land advocacy organized by ZLA. Therefore KDLA is a network organization bringing together civil society organizations to promote land rights, local participation in governance, sustainable use of land, climate awareness and provide legal services This was done in order for the members to be equipped with the necessary information, knowledge and the right tools for them to be able to handle land issues in a peaceful and legal manner especially that land is a very sensitive matter.
